Mariann Powell is a Policy Analyst at FOCUS, tracking legislative and regulatory issues with a specific focus on housing, environment and health practices across the country. A Wolfeboro, New Hampshire native, she received both her undergraduate (2011 Bachelor of Arts in political science with minors in Spanish and early American history) and graduate (2015 Master of Public Health) degrees from the University of New Hampshire. During grad school, she simultaneously worked on health care-related issues as Director of Citizen Services for then-governor Margaret Wood Hassan. Her professional experience also includes work on congressional campaigns, non-profit public affairs, state substance abuse programs and lobbying.
In 2019, while at FOCUS, Mariann joined the Vermont Air National Guard as a Bio Environmental Engineer and returned to work at FOCUS as a full-fledged Airman in early 2020 – just in time for her new skill set to be fully tested by the COVID-19 pandemic. Mariann has been deployed to serve in COVID-19 testing and vaccination sites throughout most of 2020 and 2021, but her colleagues look forward to having her passion, drive and sarcasm return to the office soon.
She is looking forward to nurturing free time activities that don't involve polishing stainless steel or swabbing noses – typically that includes hiking, camping and all the other quintessential New England activities.
