2026 LEGISLATIVE MAP

Forty-six states will hold elections for attorney general in 2026, with 88 of the 99 legislative chambers in the country up for election. Coming into the year, Democrats control 16 legislatures, while Republicans hold 27. Three states – Michigan, Minnesota and Pennsylvania – have divided legislatures and will be the focus of this election cycle as both parties try to establish control. Other states to watch will be Arizona, Maine and Wisconsin, where the majority party in at least one chamber controls by a narrow margin.
