2026 ATTORNEY GENERAL MAP
Overview of Attorney General Elections in 2026
It’s a big year for state attorneys general. Thirty states are holding elections, and there are 11 open seats where no incumbent is running. Four of these open seats are currently held by Democrats and seven are held by Republicans. Of the 19 incumbents running for re–election, seven are Republicans and 12 are Democrats. The most competitive race right now is in Nevada, where an open seat, balanced primary turnout and a Democratic fundraising edge make it a toss-up. Democrats are defending four attorney general seats in states that Republican President Donald Trump won in 2024, Nevada among them. Georgia, while leaning Republican, is a target for Democrats who see the increasingly competitive state as prime territory for an upset. Other states to keep an eye on are Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin, which will hold their primaries later this year.
