Across the country, state legislatures are closing out 2025 business while prefiling and introducing legislation for the 2026 sessions. Energy efficiency and appliance-related policy continue to be a growing priority for legislatures nationally. Some states are advancing utility-led efficiency upgrades and expanding low-income appliance and energy assistance programs, while others are refining existing efficiency standards and program requirements. A smaller number of states continue to adopt or update appliance efficiency standards in areas not preempted by federal law.
