Where Are Shoppers Getting a Break?
In 2026, states across the country are offering sales tax holidays covering a wide range of goods.
Some states have multiple tax-free periods throughout the year, while others do not offer any statewide sales tax holiday. Back-to-school shopping remains the largest category, with states providing exemptions on items such as clothing, school supplies, and computers. But other states are using sales tax holidays to encourage specific purchases, including hurricane preparedness supplies, energy-efficient products, and outdoor recreation equipment.
