States Advance Foreign Land Ownership Restrictions

Foreign land ownership bills continue to sweep through state capitols across the country. This session, 162 bills were introduced in 31 states, and eight bills have been enacted in seven states.

Momentum has continued into 2026 in part because courts have begun to uphold state restrictions, including a key federal appeals court decision affirming Florida’s law limiting property ownership by foreign principals from designated adversary nations.

FOCUS will continue to monitor developments on microplastics policy across the country.
